Message from the President
Since the Japanese Group of Social-Emotional Learning was established in October 2009, it has been committed to the research and practice of social-emotional learning (SEL).
Recently, the term “social-emotional learning” has been included in the 2022 edition of the Guidelines for Student Guidance by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) has also begun to conduct the Survey on Social and Emotional Skills (SSES). At present, SEL-based educational programs and SEL approaches are being developed and implemented in Japan, not only in educational settings but also for infants and young children through to adults, in order to help people cope with various events in their lives. We are determined to actively fulfill our social role in the future, with the aim of improving people’s academic performance, happiness and health.
Akira Miyazaki, President, Japanese Association of Social-Emotional Learning
